Q

The Burglar Doesn't Knock

A

One of the saddest parts of our business is when a customer comes in for help after they have been burgled. As well as having to deal with the emotional upset of having a stranger intrude into their home, they also have to deal with the reporting and making a claim to their insurance company. At this time it can be so easy to forget to claim for an item. Sometimes remembering months later when it is too late. Our advice to you is this.

Be it one item to dozens, photograph them. Better still; wear the jewellery when it is photographed. Then if ever it should happen to you, you have proof that you owned them and if you have remembered to take a picture on every occasion you have made a purchase there is less chance of you making a claim and forgetting something. While you are at it look around your home. Why not make a record of those items that you think would be taken.

In the age of digital cameras it is so much easier to take photographs and save them. I would suggest that you get a copy of each photograph and put it with your policies and if you are a bit of a wiz on the computer, save it there as well.
